Remember, aftershocks can and will happen after the initial quake. These aftershocks can be just as dangerous as the earthquake itself. Use caution if you are assisting co-workers that may still be in the building. Always be aware that gas lines could have been damaged and a fire or explosion could ensue.

Once you have safely exited the building, check to see if you have sustained any injuries. After inspecting for injuries, use your cell phone to call for help if any co-workers have sustained injuries or if part of the building has collapsed. |
It is very important to have an action plan in place if an earthquake was to happen while you at work. Knowing what structures are stronger in the building and knowing safe routes to exit can save your life. Be aware of where the first aid kit, fire extinguishers, and food and water storage are located. The area we work in may be beautiful, but it can be very dangerous at the same time. Every second matters in an emergency. Be the person that can make a difference when the unthinkable happens.
